August 10th saw the 26th edition of the worlds oldest cycle messenger race, the annual "Kees is jarig" indoor-alley-cat. As usual there were lots of organisers and little racers to see, when the go! Was given at 175 Nicolas Beets Street. The course was the longest and most complicated (see manifesto) in the history of this race.

After the first checkpoint - the balcony - Kees was clearly in the lead. he took the route through the living room and the hallway to the toilet, where the next checkpoint was located. Here the racers had to perform a three minute trackstand before they were allowed to proceed to the finish. (it was much disputed if Kees trackstand was in compliance with the rules, but in the end the jury decided 2 against 1 that leaning on the walls was not forbidden as the official IFBMA-trackstanding rules only outlaw "...contact between the copetitors feet or other parts of his body and the floor."
After this dispute being solved Kees, who had meanwhile arrived at the finish in the living room was declared winner in all five categories.

results:

first place: Kees Vernooy
best team: Kees & Anja
best polder jochie (that’s first person not
born in Amsterdam): Kees Vernooy
best fixie: Kees Vernooy
trackstand champion : Kees Vernooy
